Simplified Arc Flash Incident Energy Calculator
A simplified implementation of the IEEE 1584-2018 empirical model for three-phase arcs in common enclosure configurations. Use this for awareness, PPE screening conversations, and to decide whether you need a full study. It is not a substitute for a full arc-flash study by a qualified engineer and must not be used to produce official labels.
Inputs
Typical 5-cycle breaker at 60 Hz ≈ 0.083 s. Include relay delay.
610 mm = 24" (IEEE 1584 default for LV switchgear).

Important disclaimer. The calculation uses a simplified IEEE 1584-2018 model and assumes a single bolted three-phase arc fault with constant arcing current. It does not handle: current-limiting fuse I²t characteristics, two-arc scenarios, dc systems, arc extinguishing, shunt-trip coordination, or complex source impedance. Use only for screening and awareness. Official labels and PPE selection require a full study signed by a qualified engineer.
